BIOGRAPHY

Jacob Iglitzin is a New York City-based theatre artist with a focus on collaborating to create new works of musical theatre. He is a lyricist, bookwriter, composer, pianist, performer, and dramaturg. Jacob is originally from Seattle, WA.

 

His work as a lyricist/bookwriter for original musicals includes AIDEN; Elaine?!; Boys, Boys, Behave!, Partners in Crime, and The Garden of Alla. As a playwright, his plays include King Boris the First; or, How to Become Monarch of a Landlocked European Microstate (staged reading, Eugene O’Neill Center) and Death and the Lady.

 

His songs have been performed at the Tony Award-winning 54 Below cabaret (Midtown Manhattan), The Green Room 42 cabaret (Midtown Manhattan), the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, the Laurie Beechman Theatre (Midtown Manhattan), “Cabaret on the Couch” online streaming series, and the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center (Waterford, CT).

 

As a performer, he played the role of Manny Weinstock (the piano accompanist) in Brief Cameo Productions's staged reading of Terrence McNally's Tony Award-winning play Master Class in Essex, CT. He was nominated for a BroadwayWorld Connecticut Award (Best Performer in a Play).

 

Jacob graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University in 2019 with a B.A. in European History (Phi Beta Kappa). At Columbia, he performed as a singer and actor in many Columbia Musical Theatre Society productions and the annual Varsity Show. He was the lyricist for the annual student-written holiday-themed musical, XMAS!.

 

Jacob was part of the inaugural class (2021-23) of the Musical Creators’ Institute at the Dramatists Guild, where he studied musical theatre writing. His mentors included Sam Carner, Adam Gwon, Anna K. Jacobs, Zina Goldrich, and Heath Saunders. He was part of the Fall 2023 National Musical Theatre Institute intensive program at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, where he received holistic musical theatre training in acting, singing, dance, directing, dramaturgy, and songwriting.

Jacob has served as a production assistant to Paul Blake, known for the Broadway/West End productions of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (producer) and Irving Berlin's White Christmas (co-bookwriter/producer).

 

Jacob is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild of America, the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas, and the Wagner Society of New York.
