BIOGRAPHY

Jacob Iglitzin is a New York City-based theatre artist primarily focused on creating new works of musical theatre. He is a lyricist/bookwriter, playwright, composer, performer, pianist, and director/dramaturg. Jacob is originally from Seattle, WA.

 

His work as a lyricist/bookwriter for original musicals includes 16/32AIDEN (Winner: Short Play Festival "LUV" 2025); Elaine!; Boys, Boys, Behave!, and The Garden of Alla. As a playwright, his plays include the historical one-act play The King of Andorra (staged reading, Eugene O’Neill Center) and the drawing-room farce Psychopathia Paschalis (Winner: Apotheosis Theatre Group "Looking For a Play" Festival; full production planned Sep. 9-13 2026 at the Chain Theatre).

 

His works have been seen Off-Off-Broadway and his songs have been performed at the Tony Award-winning 54 Below cabaret, The Green Room 42 cabaret, Bruno Walter Auditorium at the NYPL for the Performing ArtsLaurie Beechman TheatreEugene O’Neill Theater Center, Shubert Theatre at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Vino Theater (Brooklyn, NY), and Greenhouse Ensemble Theater.

As a performer, Jacob's performance as Manny Weinstock (the piano accompanist) in Brief Cameo Productions's staged reading of Terrence McNally's Tony Award-winning play Master Class garnered him a BroadwayWorld Connecticut Award nomination (Best Performer in a Play). He performed again with BCP as Mr. Feldzieg in The Drowsy Chaperone and Stephen in McNally's The Lisbon Traviata.

Jacob has served as a producing assistant to Broadway and West End producer Paul Blake, known for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Irving Berlin's White Christmas, and Roman Holiday.

 

Jacob graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University in 2019 with a B.A. in European History (Phi Beta Kappa). At Columbia, he performed as a singer and actor in many Columbia Musical Theatre Society productions and the annual Varsity Show. He was the lyricist for the annual student-written holiday-themed musical, XMAS!.

 

Jacob was part of the inaugural class (2021-23) of the Musical Creators’ Institute, where he studied musical theatre writing under Sam Carner, Adam Gwon, Anna K. Jacobs, Zina GoldrichHeath Saunders, Michael Kooman, and others. He was part of the Fall 2023 National Musical Theatre Institute intensive program at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, where he received holistic musical theatre training in acting, singing, dance, directing, dramaturgy, and songwriting.

 

Jacob is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild of America, the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas, the Wagner Society of New York, and New York Theatre Workshop's Young Defenders and Casebook program
